I’m not entirely sure if this would be considered an instance of entrepreneurship but I was able to obtain goods that I wanted and control a market without any financial cost to me.
In fourth grade I was still not really into boys but I realized they were beginning to take an interest in me. I should also mention that I was very into collecting Pokémon cards. Anyways, boys began to ask me out and I continued to say no until I realized they too enjoyed collecting Pokémon cards, then it dawned on me. I could ask the boys for Pokémon cards in exchange for a date! I know this sounds a lot like prostitution…. but remember this is fourth grade, a date was holding hands in the hallway and sitting with each other at lunch. A few months of doing this and I had collected a shoebox full of Pokémon cards and to me this was like gold. I was able to supply a demand for a market that hadn’t really been established yet which I guess could be considered a form of entrepreneurship.
I enrolled in this class to fulfill my business admin requirements but I also have always been very interested in how entrepreneurship really works. I mean you see shows like shark tank and think, wow these people came up with such unique ideas and look at all the money they are getting for their start up, but I am more interested in how they sustain their business and their edge. Obviously, there is much more that goes into entrepreneurship then just a great idea and I’m looking forward to learning all about it!
Hey Kristie!
ReplyDeleteI loved your entrepreneurship story especially the title, because it definitely caught my attention. I think it's cool how you turned a simple trading of cards for some time to hang out with boys into a model of supply and demand. Super creative and funny! Also I took this class to for my business admin requirements too and it’s funny because signing up for this class I thought the same thing about Shark Tank!
I must the title also intrigued me. Your story is not only adorable but I love how this example is so outside the box and yet simplistic in its perfect definition of entrepreneurship. You were one smart fourth grader and I certianly hope you have not lost your game, hehe! I hope that you enjoy this class and learn something new about yourself!
ReplyDeleteHi, Kristie Brenes.
ReplyDeleteThe title of the blog post and your story is hilarious! I couldn’t stop laughing. I feel like my childhood was exactly like yours! I was into Pokemon cards as well. I would have never thought to ask for Pokemon trading cards in exchanges for dates. I find that very intuitive. Maybe you could teach me a thing or two about supply and demand. Thanks for sharing your post, Kristie!
Hi Kristie! Wow your entrepreneurship story post actually made me LOL. I enjoyed reading this, it was hilarous. Super smart thinking for a 4th grader! Title of this story was also on point. You did a 10/10 job here. I feel like you would be great at entrepreneurship and this class is the class for you. I hope those pokemon cards were worth it!
